The Story

It’s no mystery that courses on real estate licensure or property management of any kind don’t do much beyond teach you the rules. (How to protect your clients legally, stay compliant, keep your license intact, etc.) Rules matter, yes. But it doesn’t teach you how to run a business. And more specifically, it doesn’t teach you how to create an operational system that fits the way your mind works.

Borrowing is okay for a time, but your business deserves better than borrowed.

To get yourself out there, you may be tempted to borrow. You adopt the systems your mentor swears by, piece together workflows from a course you took, or follow a YouTube video that seemed close enough.

In your mind, it’s the best option because, well…there's a business to run and clients to serve, and there simply isn't time to build something from scratch.

The result? An operation that was never really designed for you. And over time, the administrative layers that were supposed to support the business quietly become the business, taking up the hours that should go toward growth, relationships, and the work only a licensed agent can do.

That's the problem Groundwork was built to address.

Groundwork Has A Personal Side, Too

My name is Lawrence McEachin (but everyone calls me LJ). I am the creator of Groundwork. Like most people in the real estate and short-term stay business, I can’t say that I always knew this would be part of my story. In fact, looking at my resumé, and seeing my background in medicine/patient care, communication, education, and linguistics, one would be reasonable to wonder how I even found myself remotely close to this field. I attribute it all to a mind capable of thinking outside the box we are typically given or have to give ourself. More connections in life, even having to do with what we build and how we take care of ourselves, exist than we realize.

At the point of writing this, I am in the middle of obtaining my real estate license in my home state of North Carolina. I currently work as a runner for one of the best real estate agents in the business, and that experience is actively giving me insight into how it all works. I find real estate, as a whole, to be an absolutely absurd business in the best and funniest way. The responsibilities of an agent can be used to help or hurt the parties involved, and I’m here to help in my own unique way.

Groundwork is one of those ways that works in the background as a support for others who also find themselves in this absurdly beautiful profession.

While she does not actively contribute to the operations of this business, I must express the deepest gratitude to my fiancée who is the reason I feel free to let me mind roam in so many creative directions. She is a force in her own right and I love her with all my heart. I will also create and build and help others with her in mind.

Life has a funny way of bringing people together, and I strive to make all the connections I develop — whether personal and business related — worthwhile.
